Uxbridge Rotary Club Announces Winners of Beautiful Baby Contest
The 2nd Annual Beautiful Baby Contest fundraiser sponsored by the Uxbridge Rotary Club succeeded in giving several children a second chance at life and a new smile. The monies raised were donated to “The Smile Train”, a non-profit organization that is committed to eradicating cleft lips and palates, by providing free surgeries and free training to physicians and hospitals. Enough funds were raised to provide corrective surgeries for seven children.
Twenty-seven local children participated in the Beautiful Baby Contest and the three with the most votes were Decotah Smith and Daniel Phipps of Douglas and Joseph Fisher of Whitinsville. Unbeknownst to the Smith family, Decotah was entered into the Beautiful Baby Contest by his great-grandmother, Marie Pelletier. Sandra and Daniel Smith were surprised to hear that their son, Decotah, was a contestant and then the top vote getter. They said that Decotah has been receiving congratulations from his family living in several states across the country.
The Uxbridge Rotary looks forward to hosting the 3rd Annual Beautiful Baby Contest so watch for further details in the fall of 2008 and keep snapping those pictures of your beautiful babies!
The Uxbridge Rotary wishes to thank all the Beautiful Babies for their participation and the community for their donations to this worthwhile fundraiser. Special thanks to UniBank, Cassidy Photo Studios and Sir Charles’ Hallmark for their sponsorship of the prizes. The fundraiser would not have been possible without the generosity of Brendan Lynch for the use of the Sir Charles’ Hallmark store.
